Snow Patrol

Snow Patrol is a musical rock band formed during 1994 based in Ireland. The band is known to perform power pop, alternative rock and indie rock styles of music.

Snow patrol was formed by students (Michael Morrison, Mark McClelland and Gary Lightbody) of University of Dundee which was earlier known as “Shrug”. Basically the band performed at gigs in nearby universities and local pubs. The band first recorded their EP titled “Yoghurt vs. Yoghurt debate”, produced by DUSA Music club which was very successful. During 1995 the band changed their name to “Polar Bear”, later Michael left the band. Again in 1997 the band was renamed to “Snow Patrol” releasing an EP of three tracks named as “Starfighter Pilot” under Electric Honey record label.

The band hired a new member Jonny Quinn as drummer, along with whom the band released their next EP “Little Hide” released under Jeepster Records. The band was first interviewed on MTV during 1998 and appeared on a documentary of Jeepster Records on Channel 4.

The band’s debut album titled “Songs for Polarbears” was released during August, 1998 under Jeepster records followed by their next album “When it’s all over we still have to clear up” released during April 2001. Both these albums failed to make an impact on charts.

The band’s third album “Final Straw” was released during January 2003 ( Ireland), August 2003 ( UK) and May 2004 (US) under various labels for UK and Interscope label for US release. The single from the album “Run” was ranked #5 on the UK and was peaked at #15 on US singles charts. The later releases by band were Eyes open (2006) and A hundred Million suns (2008).
