Smithville is one of the towns in Chenango, New York. It is at the west border of the Chenango County and in the west of the Norwich City. The town of Smithville was first settled in 1797, and was founded in 1808.
Geographically, the town of Smithville is located at 42°25′25″N 75°45′14″W. It has a total area of 50.9 square miles (131.9 km²), of which 50.5 square miles or 130.9 km² is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) or 0.79% is water.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the total population residing in the town of Smithville are 1,347 people; it also has a total number of 492 households and 364 families. Its population density is 10.3 per square kilometre. For an average density of 13.3 per square miles (5.1/km²) there are 672 housing units.
The town is made up of 97.62% Caucasians, 0.52% African-American, 0.30% Asian, 0.30% Native American, 1.19% from two or more races, and 0.07% from other races. About 0.89% of the total population are Hispanic.
