Bradford produced a scintillating second half comeback to send Wigan to their first defeat of the Super League campaign at the Odsal Stadium. Wigan looked in imperious form during the first half and were set to continue their 100% start to the season, but four tries after the break secured a momentous third successive victory for Bradford that lifts them into the top half of the table.
The visitors opened the scoring when Farrell Goulding latched onto an Amos Robert's offload to score and they extended their lead after some fine interplay between Roberts and Sam Tomkins set Harrison Hensen free. Wigan's dominance continued and they opened up a 20 point lead at half time thanks to scores from Tomkins and Pat Richards as the hosts looked in disarray
The timely interval seemed to re energise the Bulls and they reduced the deficit with a Brett Kearney score just after the restart. Key playmaker Matt Orford came to life and his powerful run, finish and conversion seemed to signal a changing tide in the game.
Orford registered his second try when he tiptoed through the Bradford backline to slide over and the comeback was complete when Glenn Hall pounced on an error to canter over with Orford's added extras sealing a superb victory.
Bradford head coach Steve McNamara was delighted with the victory after a tepid first half display. He said, “We played some dumb rugby league and made some poor decisions. We needed to smarten up in certain areas and we managed to do that. It was a great comeback.”
